Hetxw’ms Gyetxw
Hetxw’ms Gyetxw, also known as Brett D. Huson (he/him/his), is a proud member of the Gitxsan Nation from the Northwest Interior of British Columbia, Canada. He is the Founder and President of Aluu’taa, a multi-disciplinary Indigenous research and research support hub that amplifies Indigenous knowledge systems across diverse fields, including health, governance, education, infrastructure, and climate. A multi-award-winning author, Brett’s Mothers of Xsan series offers profound insights into Gitxsan culture, law, and ecological relationships.
Through Aluu’taa, Brett supports Indigenous-led initiatives and partnerships that bridge Indigenous and Western worldviews, advancing policy, practice, and research through a foundation of relationality and respect. He serves as an advisor to the Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation (LLCA) initiative, part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund, contributing to equitable and inclusive climate resilience efforts across Canadian municipalities. Brett is also a contributing writer to Canadian Geographic.
He has contributed to international gatherings such as the UN World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP) and Adaptation Futures, helping to elevate Indigenous voices and knowledge systems in global adaptation dialogues. Grounded in his Gitxsan heritage, Brett’s work fosters cultural and ecological resilience through knowledge-sharing and intergenerational connection. With the support of his wife, Jeri, and their children, Warren and Ruby, Brett is dedicated to preserving and transmitting Indigenous knowledge across generations.
